Review:
The timing couldn't be more appropriate, for SATYAGRAHA summarizes the mood of the ordinary man and the nation in general. Jha minces no words while flaying and condemning the fraudulent and unscrupulous politicians and the unjust system in a style that's now synonymous with his brand of cinema -- realistic, hard-hitting, forceful -- that leaves a hammer-strong impact.
SATYAGRAHA deals with the movement of the middle class to
re-negotiate transparency in democracy. It's the story of a man who is a firm
believer of Gandhian principles [Amitabh Bachchan], an ambitious entrepreneur
who represents the modern India shining philosophy [Ajay Devgn], a social
activist who aims to be a politician [Arjun Rampal], a fearless political
journalist [Kareena Kapoor Khan] and a wily politician [Manoj Bajpayee] who
uses every means to break the system.
The film is clearly based on the anti-corruption movement that took place in 2011 started by Anna Hazare. He was tipped as the modern day Mahatma Gandhi. Satyagraha is the story of an idealistic master Dwarka Anand (Bachchan), who lives and teaches in Ambikapur town. Enjoy a large degree after her son Nikhil Highway Authority working earnestly wants to do something for his town. His friend the human Raghavendra (Devgan) a large degree, wants to make it big in the corporate world. Then the same thing happens in real life with Nikhil engineer Satyendra Dubey in Bihar in 2003 was with, When the Highway Authority's contractors were adamant on defying quality.
Taking the movie as such, Prakahs Jha has
taken a real issue (corruption) to reel life and has movingly fused fact with
fiction. It is packed with qualitative performances with each actor grabbing
attention. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn's characters have been portrayed
extremely well making sure they are not caricatures of the real-life
characters. B Big has delivered a brilliant performance (no surprises); Devgn
has handled his role with excellence and extreme care. Kareena is effortless yet again, displaying a
natural streak while playing her character. Arjun Rampal has really showed his
excellent acting caliber in this movie. Manoj Bajpajee is vicious and has made
an admirable bad guy. Amrita Rao, Vipin Sharma, Vinay Apte and the others with
their top notch performances have all added success to the film.
Produced by Prakash Jha, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur, this political drama mirrors the reality around us. It is yet another addition to Jha’s good works. If you’re into socio-political realities reflected on cinema then Satyagraha is the flick for you.
